What Makes a Truly Luxurious Bathroom? At Least a Few Of The Following:

August 2017

Detail. Candles, bronze statues, beautifully crafted taps and fittings – all are details that personalize the space. Something as simple as a tray with a candle, a book and some tea, a chandelier or pretty decorative storage can elevate a space.

Space. Unless you are going through a complete renovation, creating more square footage is not an option. Create the appearance of more space by removing visual clutter, choosing a monochromatic colour palette, and using a few additional luxurious qualities.  A bathroom can create the illusion of space by being minimalist and employing strategic features. Creating shapes which are organic such as curved walls will enhance the sense of luxury especially when finished with beautiful mosaics made of gemstones or glass. A beautiful bathtub: A sunken tub that is out of the ordinary and more difficult to include in a regular bathroom is going to be a very special feature and when used in the right environment, it can have the desired effect. Equally, having a freestanding tub acting as a focal point is a luxury detail which will make your bathroom stand out.

Light.  Like space, light is a commodity that can be in short supply, and its abundance in the bathroom is a luxury. If you’re lucky enough to have large windows and no close neighbours, consider going bare. If not, stick to sheers or window coverings that let in the most light possible. For those smaller windows, consider lighting that mimics natural sunlight.

Finishes. Luxurious bathrooms use beautiful, natural materials on floors and walls. Marble, mosaic, teak:  If you are renovating, invest in quality natural materials. Not only are they luxurious, quality lasts forever and never goes out of style.

Texture.  Feeling your feet go from the sleek stone under heated floor, to a pebble textured shower floor which naturally massages your feet – textures create intimacy.  Consider plush towels and bathrobes too.
